DETAIL: Born in Huddersfield and educated at the Camden House School, Brighton. Although winning the school drawing prize, he initially worked in a fancy goods warehouse in Brighton while continuing with his drawing. A chance meeting with E Goodwyn Lewis persuaded him to change careers, and he studied at the RA Schools from 1882-88 (winning a silver medal in Life Study), and the Academie Julian, Paris. He then spent time in France, Italy and Spain studying the Old Masters.He married and settled in Wimborne, Dorset. Settled in St Ives for a period during WWI (1916). He leased 9 Richmond Terrace in that year, and took a studio at Porthmeor. In 1918 he was elected on to the Lanham's Hanging Committee. In his later years he lived in Kensington, London.
Exhibited widely into his old age, including RA, RI, ROI and Walker’s Gallery. Was a member of the Arts Club, London. Lived in London.

Frames: Because of the fragile nature of picture frames, all frames are offered free with the painting. You are welcome to ask questions about the frame condition before buying but we cannot accept returns or requests for 'part refunds' because a frame arrives with some existing damage not sustained in transit.

All paintings are sold without glass for safety in transit. Replacement glass costs just a few pounds, is easily fitted, and saves the strong likelihood of your artwork getting damaged in the post if glass were included. We ship within a maximum of 3 days of purchase and will use a variety of 24-48 hour parcel carriers including Parcelforce, UPS, Yodel, City Link and Hermes. Internationally we generally ship UPS on a 5 day service. We ship worldwide apart from The Russian Federation and certain other countries where we cannot get parcel company coverage. You are also welcome to collect from our address near Cirencester, Cotswolds – at no charge. Unfortunately we have to charge a small premium for UK Highlands & Islands as well as Northern Ireland, please email for a postal quote if you live in these areas of the country.
We accept returns when notified within 48 hours of receipt. If the return is due to an error on our part then we will pay up to £12 for the return postage. If the return is for other reasons, not the fault of ourselves, then we will not pay for the return postage but will refund the full purchase price (excluding postage) on receipt.
