Description

The JT MF Monster is based on a piece actually played by the legendary Maynard Ferguson. I received the original piece from trumpeter Dan Burnham, who was given the piece by Maynard Ferguson in 1983. The rim just gradually melts into the cup, like all the Jet-Tone MF rims, however this one has more bite (lower alpha angle) than others. The cup is medium shallow to shallow (similar to Bach D/E), and a convex V from rim to throat. The throat is really open (#19). The backbore used is the Legends LA, which produces a medium focused sound. The Legends LA was inspired by a backbore used by the legendary Johnny Madrid. This mouthpiece has melded inspiration from two trumpet masters – and two masters make a monster!

This mouthpiece is kept in stock in two blanks: JT and Vintage. The JT blank has a smooth old-school look inspired by classic JT mouthpieces. It's is a perfect mix of weight: just enough mass to enhance slotting with a big core, but not so much mass that the sound won't sizzle! The Vintage blank is also inspired by classic JT mouthpieces played by famous trumpet players of a bygone era. It has a beautiful art deco look. There isn't a lot of excess mass with this blank, which makes it versatile enough for general playing but with plenty of zing for those solo and lead parts!

Return Policy

This item can be returned. The item must be in new condition (no exceptions). The buyer must pay return shipping plus a 20% restocking fee. Return shipping must be by USPS Priority or USPS International Priority Mail.
