Chinese blue and White Porcelain Top on Lacquered Red Lunch Box.

This 3 layered Chinese lunch box (7.5” tall and 8” wide) was a gift 23 years ago by a colleague who studies China. He said that broken porcelain was sometimes used to decorate tiered lunch boxes and that he found this in an antique shop while in China. I do not remember what he said about the age of the porcelain or the box itself.

It has some damage to the lacquer and to the former ‘feet’ of the box, which must have been sheered off at some point. See photos. Nevertheless, it is a unique and beautiful.

Chinese red lacquer with floral inspired pattern.

The top lid has a porcelain inlay lid has the image of two men. The interior and underside are black lacquer.

Displays well and would look great as a dressing table jewellery or make up box. Or simply for display.
