Romania 1938, 100 Lei KM#54 Carol II, scarce demonetized (cancelled) nickel coin. C147

On August 11, 1941, the law no. 725/1941 was passed, for demonetization of the 50 and 100 Lei coins; they where replaced by paper banknotes of 100 Lei; the metal was used for weapons manufacturing during WW2.
The 50 Lei and 100 Lei coins were demonetized by shearing, by Vereinigte Deutsche Metallwerke AG in Altona, NRW, Germany. The extracted nickel was used for military production and partly for coating the 100 Lei coins issued in 1943 and 1944. The demonetized version is still a collection item for many numismatists.

The Buy It Now price is for the coin you see.
