A GOOD EARLY STAFFORDSHIRE SPILL VASE DEPICTING A COUNTRY GROUP OF SHEPHERD, SHEPHERDESS WITH SHEEP IN A RURAL SETTING

As described in the condition report, we consider this to be early 19th century circa 1820 and has been kept in good condition during its long life displaying only minor losses as described.
This group displays a typically English rural scene beloved of the Victorians produced mainly to bring some colour into the rather drab lives of the average working person of the time. Extruded clay has been used to replicate flowers leaves etc, with the sheep each formed separately and all facing front as if set up for a photo positioned neatly in front of the shepherd and shepherdess in their best clothes! Stunning!
