Pregnant Luise Vase (Orchideenvase)

Being offered on this auction is gorgeous vase made by Rosenthal China, Selb, Bavaria, Germany. It is of famous now German Op-Art line. Acknowledged artist, ceramist and sculptor Fritz Heidenreich (1895 – 1966) designed this vase. He was a Rosenthal employee from 1919 to 1960, and from 1946 onwards the head of the art department in Selb. He always tried to find contemporary ways of expressing his sense of forms. The most famous of his works is vase on this auction. This legendary vase is called ‘Pregnant Luise’ (‘Orchideenvase’). All Rosenthal famous Op-Art was started after he introduced this vase. He is also well known for fish group ‘Scalare’, which was awarded with Grand Prize in Paris in 1937. He is also known for his ‘Seven Faces’ (7 Gesichter) and Loop (Schleifenvase) vases. Pregnant Luise is Rosenthal form 2592. It was designed in c. 1957. This vase is known with many decors made by other artists working for Rosenthal. Vase on this auction is decorated with Lovers Couple. French artist and illustrator Raymond Peynet (1908 – 1999) designed this décor. He became, quite literally, a household name in the 1950s and 60s when his pair of 'Lovers' shot to prominence internationally and particularly in France. They appeared in prints, cards, ceramics, tea trays, key-chains - pretty nearly anything. Peynet designed for Rosenthal between 1955 and 1965 and his pieces are among the most collectable. Vase is marked on the backside with standard ‘Rosenthal Germany Kuntabteilung Selb’ mark in green dating production of late 1950s. Form number 2592 and ‘F.HEIDENREICH’ are incised on the backside. Other marking is green decor number 15026. Peynet’s signature is embedded within his painting.

Vase measures about 2 ½” x 3 ¼” and stands 7” tall. Condition is immaculate with no cracks or chips found. Colors are bright and vibrant. Please take a look at the pictures to find out more about this piece of the art.
