  • Bemerkungen: Der rare, altkolorierte Kupferstich zeigt eine sehr dekorative und detaillierte Ansicht der Hansestadt Danzig mit ihren Kirchen, den wichtigen Gebäuden und den Befestigungsanlagen vom Hagelsberg aus gesehen. Die Ansicht wird durch zwei Wappen, eine Gruppe von Kaufleuten und einfachen Bürgern in typischer Kleidung sowie eine größere Zahl von Segelschiffen auf der Mottlau und der Ostsee ergänzt. Rückseitig findet sich ein beschreibender lateinischer Text. Aus dem zweiten Band des Städtebuches "Civitates Orbis Terrarum".

This rare, genuine copper engraving shows a very decorative view of the Hanseatic city of Gdansk in original colours at the end of the 16th century. The panoramic view depicts the city with high attention to detail. All churches, the important buildings and the fortifications can be identified. The engraving is further enriched by two coats of arms, several persons in typical clothing and a number of sailing ships on the river Motlawa and the Baltic Sea. Descriptive latin text on verso. This original engraving from Braun & Hogenberg's Vol. 2 of the "Civitates Orbis Terrarum" was printed in the year 1580 and measures 33 x 48 cm (platesize). It is in good condition. There is some light browning due to age and a small unobtrusive restoration in the center of the upper margin.
