Susie Cooper Coffee Cup & Saucer

Dimensions are approximately:

 Saucer diameter: 14cms (5 1/2" ins)
Cup diameter excluding handle: 6.5cms (2 1/2" ins)
Cup height excluding handle: 6.5cms (2 1/2" ins)

This mid century coffee duo was produced by respected English designer Susie Cooper circa late 1960's.

The coffee cup and saucer is decorated with the retro/pop and extremely rare Nebula Pattern featuring a sun/starburst pop motif in orange/red on olive green earthenware.

The cup has white handles and the saucer a white centre.

The innovative coffee 'can' cup shape was designed by Susie in 1958.
 
A great collectors set...

As the years pass, these lovely china items become more precious... pieces are damaged, lost or collections are broken up.  The good news for collectors is that quality pieces should not only hold their value but increase over time.

Condition:
Price is for 1 coffee set, volume discount applies... first in gets the best!  

Very good vintage condition for two of the sets commensurate for age and use (see photos 8,9,10,11,14,15) No chips, fractures, crazing or discolouration. Some occasional surface marks and white spots on all items due to the matte surface but generally very good condition.

The third set has a small surface hairline to the back of the cup and a dark smudge (see photos 2,3,4,5) otherwise this set is also very good.

 Susie Cooper is best known for her innovative and fresh designs to general use earthenware and china items.  She was born in England 1902 and pursued a career as a designer, setting a trend in 'designer labels' as early as the 1930's by producing modernist designs in bold hand painted colours. She worked with various china companies including Wedgwood, situated in the Staffordshire area and produced an immense range of wares over the years.  In 1979 she received an OBE for her pioneering designs.  She continued to work as a free-lance designer until her death in 1995.
