Great Gift Idea!

I. CONDITION

Perfect. Beautiful. Unused, but not with their original box. Slightly tarnished, (See pics.) Needs a little polishing. Was in storage with an old but unused grocery balance scale.

• Item’s Background - Antique Collector's Estate Sale Item.

• Working Condition – Excellent. This item is fully functional and performs as originally intended.  (See accuracy test below in following text.)

• Cosmetic Condition – Unused. Virtually no unusual wear, rust, or corrosion. Was well stored but it also has some of the usual expectable vintage aging, considering its relative time period. (See pics.) On the plus side it's air of nostalgia is pretty much all there to take in, display, and enjoy. 

II. DESCRIPTION

Manufacturer – Not known. Un-hallmarked. (Not likely to be Avery. Though Avery supplied generic brass weights to its competitors in the English scale market, these weights are not commercially accurate enough for trade.)

• Mfg. Part Number – Not known.

• Age - Presumed to be early to mid 1930s due to the grocers’ scale it was stored with.

• Model Line - Grocer series.

• Functionality - Only roughly 101% accurate. OK for cooking, but not for trade.

• Practical Use - Charming nostalgic display piece.

• Component Materials – Cast Brass, lathed to shape. No lead counter-balancing.

• Restoration - unnecessary.

• Maintenance - This item will eventually tarnish slightly. Every 5 years or so, I recommend a casual wipe-down using something like Tarn•X® or Turtle Wax Heavy Duty Rubbing compound. 

(Note: When using Tarn•X, it is important to quench the de-tarnishing chemical reaction by wiping down the object with water and a dry towel within a few moments after application. Treated brass items will then stay bright and shiny golden much longer by doing so.)
