For your consideration is an Inscribed First American Edition of Hot Jazz: The Guide to Swing Music by Hugues Panassie published by M. Witmark & Sons, New York, 1936 with a foreword by Louis Armstrong.

The book consists of 363 pages bound in black cloth covered boards with gilt lettering on the cover and spine. It is in good condition.  And the only markings in the book is the inscription, on the front free endpaper, by Mm. Panassie.  There is slight wear to the edges and corners of the book boards.

The dust jacket is in fair condition with the price still unclipped.  There are nicks to the upper and lower edges and there is a clean break along the dust jacket's length of the front edge of the spine.  (The clean break does not show when the dust jacket is encased in its mylar cover).

The book boasts an extensive 67 page APPENDIX: List of Hot Records (See photos 7 and 8).

This First American Edition of Hot Jazz was especially revised by Panassie from his original 1934 French book, Le Jazz Hot.  Panassié was the founder of the Hot Club de Paris and for many years, considered, the most authoritative European voice on jazz.

Hot Jazz is one of the earliest serious works on jazz and difficult to find inscribed by the author.

.The book measures approximately 8 3/4” x 6”.
