 50 Cents - Elizabeth II Tiara / Modified Coat of Arms (1964)

In 1959, the new Canadian coat of arms which had been approved for government issue in 1957 was adapted for the 50-cent piece. One of the major changes compared to the previous design was the addition of a ribbon at the bottom bearing "A MARI USQUE AD MARE," meaning "from sea to sea" and making reference to the territorial extent of the country.

Coin depicts the Tiara portrait design of Queen Elizabeth II with the Latin inscription:
ELIZABETH II D • G • REGINA meaning "Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, the Queen

 Reverse

Features the modified Canadian Coat of Arms as described by the Royal proclamation of November 21, 1921.
