God Anubis

Anubis is the god of death, mummification, afterlife, tombs, and the underworld (Duat) in the ancient Egyptian religion. Usually it is depicted in the form of a dog or a man with a dog's head. Archaeologists have concluded that the animal that was revered as Anubis is one of the Egyptian canids, the African jackal.

  Anubis has assumed different roles in different contexts. Depicted as the protector of tombs as early as the First Dynasty (c. 3100 - c. 2890 BC), Anubis was also responsible for mummification. By the Middle Kingdom (c. 2055 - 1650 BC) he was replaced by Osiris in his role as lord of the underworld. One of his notable roles was as a guide to spirits in the afterlife. He attended weighing events, during which the heart was "weighed", and it was decided whether a soul would be allowed to enter the realm of the dead. Despite being one of the oldest deities and "one of the most mentioned" in the Egyptian pantheon, Anubis played no role in Egyptian mythology. Anubis is depicted in black, a color that symbolizes renewal, life, the soil of the Nile River, and the change of color of a corpse after mummification. Anubis is associated with his brother Wabot, another Egyptian deity who is depicted with a dog's head or in the form of a canine, but with gray or white fur. Historians assume that the two characters were eventually brought together. Anubis' female counterpart is Anput. His daughter is the goddess of snakes Kebechet, and may have been a mother.
