Poster
produced by Alphonse Mucha in 1898 for the Waverley Cycles.
The
Waverley brand was an American company from Indianapolis (Indiana)
created in 1885, known and represented throughout Europe.
On
the poster, Mucha chose to represent not a bicycle but its
handlebars, on which a woman blacksmith leans. In her hand, she
holds a branch of laurel, probably to evoke the victories won by
the famous brand. A hammer and an anvil in the foreground
symbolize the robustness of bicycles.
Alfonphe
Mucha is a Czech poster designer, illustrator, graphic designer,
