Comic book superhero The Phantom is sworn to the destruction of piracy, greed, cruelty and injustice. Seemingly immortal, having been around since 1536, he is in fact the latest member of a crime-fighting dynasty to adopt the same costumed-persona. Written by creator Lee Falk in 1973, the novel ‘The Story of The Phantom: The Ghost Who Walks’ tells the story of young Kit Walker, who eschews college success to become the 21st Phantom on the death of his father.
The coin portrays a coloured image of The Phantom with a background representing Skull Cave, his jungle hideout. Also included in the design are the inscriptions ‘THE PHANTOM’ and ‘THE GHOST WHO WALKS’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Accompanied by a numbered
certificate of authenticity, the coin is housed in a black and purple
circular presentation case. The top of the lid features a composite
image of The Phantom’s masked face and his Skull Mark.
When opened to
reveal the coin, the underside of the lid features the full Skull Mark
with eyes that automatically light up.
The special case comes in a box shipper with a purple, metallic-like finish on the lid. The shipper lid also features a varnished version of The Phantom’s Skull Mark.
