Achievement: The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Bruce MacDonald Barackman (NSN: 0-104144), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Fighting Squadron FIFTY (VF-50), in action against enemy forces on 24 June 1944. Leading his division through extremely adverse weather in a long-range mission against enemy installations in the Kazan Islands, he sighted a superior enemy intercepting force and immediately initiated an attack which definitely destroyed at least five enemy planes and probably shot down two others, of which he himself definitely destroyed two. Materially contributing to the success of the mission. His courage and skill were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
