Achievement: The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Oscar Clark Bailey (NSN: 0-112688), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as pilot of a carrier-based Fighter Airplane in Fighting Squadron TWENTY-EIGHT (VF-28), embarked in U.S.S. MONTEREY, in the vicinity of the Marianas Islands. On 19 June 1944, when Japanese air groups staged a full scale attack on our fleet units, he led his division into combat intercepting enemy fighters attempting to reach our forces. He personally destroyed four fighters; his wingman one. His leadership, skill and courage were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Credit: Oscar Bailey became a World War II Navy Ace, credited with shooting down 5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat.

Provenance: Collection acquired from the Bob Troubetzkoy Estate of San Francisco in 2015 who was an autograph collector of WW2 flying aces, AVG aces, and generals. All the WW2 hereos in his collection are deceased, therefore, the autographs are extremely rare. Condition Varies.
