Vintage Nasa JPL Bell Jar Science Equipment Jet Propulsion Laboratory Authentic. This is kinda a long story but here we go. I acquired this piece from the daughter of a former Nasa engineer who was cleaning out her fathers estate. They had lots of Nasa memorabilia and she said her father worked for Jet Propulsion Laboratory back in the 70s then they moved to Colorado and he started his own company specializing in rubber. This was in his barn. She said oh yeah the old bell jar has been in my fathers labs since I was a child. I purchased it thinking it was super neat. Well I brought it home and started inspecting it to see if I could figure out its past.  On the bottom rubber seal it says Porter Seal Co. 12" which is neat but next to it someone wrote VITON. (Its faded see pictures) So I look up JPL Viton and low and behold a published research paper from JPL October 1972 pops up... Long Term Aging of Elastomers: Chemorheology of Viton B Fluorocarbon Elastomer. So here's what I figure this Bell Jar is from the Viton B experiments on Viton O-Rings at JPL in the 70s!!!!! Its super neat I have had it in my collection for a couple years and now its time to make some room for other stuff. Its large and heavy 12.5" wide 18" tall and weighs 19lbs. The glass is 1/4" thick. It does have a chip on the bottom that the rubber covers (see picture). It also does have some scuffs and and some rubbery sticky stuff on the inside that I haven't cleaned because I didn't wanna take away from the authenticity. This thing is big and heavy. So I figure some collector might want it. Have a cool model or something you want to cover? Have any questions send me a message. I can send link to the paper I found. Thanks for looking! I will require signature for delivery.
