Yes this is the famous 1963 from Seagull, one of the most faked watch in the world besides Rolex. Almost every single 1963 for sale on ebay or being reviewed on youtube by watch experts are fake. The more expensive fakes use a Seagull movement to add to the confusion, but are not made by Seagull and nowhere close to the quality.
There is nothing wrong buying a fake as a fashion piece to save some money, but just know they have no resale value / collectibility, why not pay a bit more and have a genuine piece that is truly collectible and can be passed down, especially for such a popular model as the 1963.
Here are some details on this very misunderstood and confusing watch
- Seagull has only ever manufactured 2 limited releases of its 1963 watch, designed by the master watchmakers from the original team who created the 1963.
- The first release was the 21 Zuan (Signifies 21 jewels of the movement, original 1963 had 19 jewels - 19 Zuan)
- The second more recent release celebrating the 60th anniversary is the 22 Zuan (22 jewels), it is almost an exact copy as the 21 Zuan except with an upgraded ST19 movement (the watch in this auction) and different stainless back engravings
- All other versions are fake by noname brands like Sugess etc.. Anything with see through back, different texts, no individual serial number on the back case, no official Seagull box / manual / card, etc..

Some background on Seagull , one of my favorite watchmaker. Seagull is a Chinese watchmaker that has been designing and making their own inhouse movement and watches since the 1950s (older than many Swiss brands), they have a long tradition of making high quality collector mechanical watches that rivals the Swiss and Japanese with generations of very skilled master watchmakers. Owning a Sea-gull in China before it got flooded with Rolex was considered a privilege and a life accomplishment for the collector.
The reason I love this brand is their approach of making high quality watches without the insane price premiums and snobbiness.
Sadly there is mass confusion even from experts on this brand given Seagull does zero marketing and little to no distribution outside of China, almost all of the listings for sale and youtube reviews are FAKES not genuine Seagull watch. It's either a out right knockoff (Yes i see the irony of knocking off a Chinese brand), or the high end expensive fakes that use a Seagull movement in the watch but are not made by Seagull, brands like Sugess etc.. they are NOT authentic Sea-Gull watches, and far inferior in quality. It's okie if you want a fashion accessory, just be aware those fakes have no collector value with questionable quality, i would argue why not pay a bit more and get the real thing given how fairly priced they are.
NOTE: ALL genuine Seagull watches come with branded paper + box, and serial number engraved on the back of the watch. If it doesn't have it, it's a FAKE.
