Audio Devices (Capitol) "Audiotape" 10 1/2" diameter aluminum NAB reel for 1/4-inch analog recording tape. Used, but clean and ready to re-use.

In vintage Audiotape cardboard box, which has unmarked front and back but some traces of Scotch Magic Mending tape. There are two old labels on spine. Otherwise, box is sturdy and in good condition for its age.

Audio Devices manufactured "Audiotape" (as well as Audiodiscs and Audiofilm) from the 1950s into the 1970s, when it was taken over by Capitol Records and, after a few bumpy years, it went out of business.

This reel is among the fittest; it has survived. I have scrapped hundreds of others, many with more prestigious brand names, that did not stand up to repeated use. This reel still spins true and has smooth, unburred edges.

Note: Archivists recommend that you preserve your old tapes on aluminum NAB reels shelved vertically. Avoid storage on flangeless hubs, plastic reels, and especially small-hub 5" and 7" reels.
