original 1897 antique color lithographed map of southern France, with
decorative piano-key border, printed more than 125 years ago.
- The coverage area extends
from Rochefort and Annecy, south to the border with Spain and the
Mediterranean Sea, with insets of Corsica and the southern
coast between Narbonne and Italy, including Cette, Marseille,
Toulon, Cannes, Nice, Monaco, and the French Riviera.
- Other named places and
features include Bordeaux, Limoges, Lyon, Grenoble, and the Rhone
River, as well as railroads, steamship routes, and submarine telegraph lines.
- The image area measures 26.5
x 38 cm [10½" x 15"].
- The map was engraved by the
Matthews-Northrup Company.
- It was published by the
Century Company of New York and is dated 1897 in the legend.
