The Lover’s Knot Tiara is a special heirloom of the Royal British family. Former Queen Mary commissioned this special tiara in 1913 from Britain’s House of Garrard. Diamonds and pearls make up this gold and silver tiara, all of which had come from her family. She modeled this crown after her grandmother Princess Augusta of Hesse's tiara, which is the original Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara. Eventually, the commissioned piece was passed down to Queen Elizabeth II, who gifted it to her daughter-in-law Princess Diana. After the divorce from Prince Charles, the tiara returned to Queen Elizabeth II. This Canadian Mint coin honors the legacy of this tiara as one of the Queen’s favorites, and this was especially struck to celebrate her 95th birthday in 2021.
