The penfield cover for this issue became an iconic collector's item and was released as a poster now fetching 4 figures.  The new york public library's web site states that "The advent of the art poster in america is traceable to the publication of edward penfield's poster advertising the march 1893 issue of harper's. Unlike earlier advertising posters, penfield's work presented an implied graphic narrative to which text was secondary."

W. Greely, "The automobile in warfare."   finally, a full page illustration of japanese warships coaling in the harbor at nagasaki entitled, "Waiting for orders," referring to the on-going russian-japanese war.
