Large evergreen tree which has existed since the Dinasaurs!
The rare stone JET is actually fossilised remains of Monkey Puzzle trees only usually found in Whitby
where the sea drowned a huge monkey puzzle forest.
Its horizontal branches are covered in spirals of sharp triangular leaves
Also known as the Chile Pine where they live on these seeds as a sustainable diet.
The DNZ of this seed goes back to 200 million years. It is a favourite in large gardens or to people with patience
who would like to make more interest than the bank provides. For instance the cost of a seed is about 50p-60p but if you grow them for one year they go for £9.50 per plant!
It grows fairly slowly reaching 6m x 3m in ten years. but It can reach 25m high and 10m wide and can live for 1000 years.
Grow in a sheltered spot in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well drained soil. Water well after planting until established. No pruning or additional care is necessary.

Some seeds may need stratifying to break their winter dormancy. This is explained in the instructions and consists of starting the germination process in fridge, or winter conditions. It is easy to do but this is why they do not sell tree seeds in garden nurseries. Our instructions will take you through the easy process. It is exciting to see the seeds sprouting after this process. I do sell lots of seeds that do not need stratifying and there will not be a notice underneath if they do. For instance Judas, Wisteria, Gleditisia, Laburnum, Pea tree, Eucalyptus, Birches, Senna Tree, Gingko Biloba, monkey puzzle infact ALL conifers, and many others are non dormant and do not need any stratification.
Please note that all returns must be sent the next day after receiving the seeds as under the Perishable Goods Act, seeds can perish unless kept in the right conditions.
