The porcelain factory Bing & Groendahl released the world's first Christmas plate in 1895 and continued the tradition until the factory closed in 1987. The production of plates was taken over by Royal Copenhagen and RC is producing the plates to this day.

This VTG 1980 BING & GRONDAHL B & G CHRISTMAS PLATE “Christmas in the Woods” EUC is part of an enormous lot of vintage B&G Christmas plates purchased by me in Jensen Beach, Florida. The plates have been stored in my smoke-free, pet-free, air-conditioned home.

The “Christmas in the Woods” plate depicts Reindeer in the woods near a food silo with a white Christmas tree and bright white star in the background . The bright star in the sky represents the Christmas star, found on nearly all B&G Christmas plates. The plate is in shades of blue with white accents and a white rim. The design is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in the traditional Copenhagen blue below the glaze. The back of the plate has the green B & G makers marks intact, along with the plate number (9080) and the title, “Christmas in the Woods” in English and Danish.” There is a faded blue factory mark on the left (see photos.).

The plate has not been cleaned, repaired or altered by me in anyway. THERE ARE NO CRACKS, CHIPS, CRAZING, KNICKS on the plate. The plate has 4 holes on the back for hanging or mounting. The plate is approximately 7 1/8 inches across. There are minimal signs of wear noted on the back of the plate (SEE PHOTOS). There is NO original box for this plate.
