Stunning, stylized Tlaquepaque platter in rare 17” diameter size features a beautifully composed image of exotic tropical blossoms, pods and leaves. Masterfully handpainted in muted green, rust, cream and several shades of blue, from gray to turquoise, the imposing platter boasts a charming low-sheen finish.

The perfectly round hanging plate is in excellent used condition, especially considering its age ( it was probably created in the 1940s/50s) and the softness of the redware clay.

There is some slight, very minor chipping along the underside of the rim, a couple of tiny pinholes in the front, and three lightly whitened spots ( I am thinking possibly kiln rests? ) on the front. No cracks, staining, crazing etc. Design is bright and clear.

In all, this is a treasure of Tlaquepaque design. The painting is seductive , the detailing exquisite. The colors are traditional without being cliché, and the slightly abstracted florals are shockingly modern. It is rare to find a statement size piece that hits all these marks, in such condition. Perfect on a wall ( hanging hardware included), shelf, or tabletop, the authentic folk art ceramic ships USPS Ground Advantage from Los Angeles. I can also offer local pickup from 90065.
