• Have I evaluated only one or two other headsets?  Most reviewers highly recommend the leading brands for podcasts or audio-books and in writing seem so thrilled that the technology works at all that they gush, "fantastic sound". That's just dishonest in my opinion.  Fans of this tech surely find new freedoms in day to day activities but neither the best nor the most expensive bone conduction headsets sound as dynamic as good in or over-ear devices.  I don't like to wear buds and found that this G7 is my favourite B.C headset for musical sound and you will pay a premium for the marketing efforts of the leading brands.

(: Bone Conduction Headsets In A Nutshell :)
• Sound passes through cheekbones so your ear canals are bypassed but remain in 1st place
Your ears keep their freedom for awareness, comfort, safety and collaboration
• Built-in microphone. (Like Bluetooth transmissions, mics don’t work underwater)
• Useful with earplugs for amplification and isolation versus machinery, wind, crowds...*
• Hygienic quick-fit that can be worn with masks, helmets, and glasses
• Fixed sizes that commonly fit up to 10" measured from ear-back to ear-back
• Potential aid for sufferers of conductive hearing loss, tinnitus, ADD...
• Often an upgrade from portable speakers and a likely emphasis on vocal audio
Sound quality is optimal in quiet places and acoustics can vary based on your unique anatomy
Manufacturers are upfront about battery/playtime duration

As fans of the open-ear lifestyle, we compared dozens of B.C. headsets versus the benchmark, Shokz Pro for comfort, user-friendliness, acoustics, microphones and reliability. We actually accumulated several rarely reviewed branded and multi-branded headsets that have superior musical sound quality: H15, AK12, Padmate S30, Mairdi100. Some of these are reviewed among my other items for "sale".

The G7 sits at the top of our pile and is full-featured, durable, comfortable, secure and while "plasticky" in construction, it offers rare surprises...
  • Sounds most rich with detail and does it's bass-ness politely
  • Has a fairly natural sounding microphone, and handles moderately noisy environments.
The G7 even has a couple of rare features; caller ID, and vocal mode (as seen in the comparison pictured above). Shokz and Mairdi also have caller ID but I've never seen it advertised. It's possible CID is often incompatible.

----------------------- Criteria for Ranking -----------------------
Sound Quality: For most genres of music, Mairdi is the main competition for the G7. To my ears, Mairdi simply beats the ubiquitous Shokz Pro by softening vocal sounds to normal levels unmasking the existing bass. G7 includes the missing sparkle leaving the others sounding relatively "dull inside your head". Nonetheless they'll be a step back from your tampods and many in-ear devices.

Comfort: Expect forgettable all-day use. (Me: a parental, carpenter, gardener...)

User Friendliness: We prefer 3 button control which minimizes the need for dreaded triple-presses and accommodates the basics; on/off, instant control of volume +/-, skip fwd/back, play/pause. Button location comparisons and accessible features are discussed in "Notable Tips" in the slideshow above.

Microphones: At any price, most struggled.. especially with noise cancellation. Shokz Pro/com and Soundpeats scored well. I would not promote any as "crystal clear".

Reliability:  As we discovered competitive models and the potential to re-sell, I purchased additional samples of our finalists to mistreat and to assess consistency of the acoustics and construction as indicators of reliability. Of course, time is the only true test.

Update: ... using and abusing two of my own G7s since June 2023 without (reliability) issues, and have had no complaints from 20+ local buyers. One online customer elsewhere claimed an issue with volume balance.
