I. CONDITION

Used. Previously owned. Appears used. (See pics.) These torsion scale weight set consist of precision Brass torsion weights without a sub-set of aluminum milligram weights.  May need some minor polishing for display purposes.

• Item’s Background - Antique Collector's Estate Sale Item. Estate Sale, Pasadena, Ca. 

• Working Condition – These scale weights are fully functional and perform exactly as originally intended.

• Cosmetic Condition – Shows Well. Weights have some of the usual expectable vintage aging, considering set's long life in storage. (See pics.) On the plus side, as a display trophy, the air of nostalgia is pretty much all there to take in, display, and enjoy.

• Current Retail Replacement Value - No equivalent. This is an old-fashioned antique type balance-style scale currently replaced by digital battery powered versions.

(IMHO - Given that 1Dram = 1.77185 grams, my Electronic scale is not precise enough to generate an adequately accurate comparison measurement.)

Key Features:

• Functionality - Quaint and a bit old-fashioned, but fully functional.

• Practical Use - In this era of accurate digital-electric scales, old fashioned balance-type scales and weights may seem obsolete, but these weights remain an excellent attractive nostalgic curio display piece.  

• Component Materials – Micro-milled Brass stock with reddish protective anti -corrosion lacquer.

• General Maintenance - I recommend removing the aged lacquer coating then dipping the weights in some Tarn•X®. This item will eventually tarnish in air slightly. Every few years or so, I recommend a casual wipe-down using something like Tarn•X or, better yet, Turtle Wax® Heavy Duty Auto Wax Rubbing compound to retard tarnishing. 

(Note: When using Tarn•X, it is important to quench the de-tarnishing chemical reaction by wiping down the object with water and a dry towel within a few moments after application. Treated brass items will then stay bright and shiny golden much longer by doing so.)
