Scarce Swiss Model 1887 1878 Pioneer Bayonet scabbard.  This will not fit the more common Model 1911, but the earlier model.  Measures 19.75" overall,  both locket and chape are tight and not loose.  Light crack on the back center area that runs down, then sideways on the stitches, then down again, they overlap on the corners coming slightly over the other side, looks tight and does not expand when moving it.  The locket is stamped, 58.  Cartouche on finial. Shows age patina, wear, use.  A hard to find model of the earliest sawback version bayonets that were used on the vetterli and schmidt rubin. Scabbard only, no bayonet.
