New Orleans' Sweet Emma And Her Preservation Hall Jazz Band LP Dixieland Gem Archival Sleeve
This is happy music which gets under your skin by the old masters

Recorded on October 18, 1964, at the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre

This LP features The Preservation Hall Jazz Band in its early days, when pianist/vocalist Sweet Emma Barrett was the leader. Clarinetist Willie Humphrey and trumpeter Percy Humphrey, are in better than usual form, and trombonist Jim Robinsonis his usual consistent self. This band clearly enjoys themselves jamming mostly on warhorses, making this a high-spirited set of New Orleans jazz.

"Sweet Emma" Barrett (March 25, 1897, New Orleans, Louisiana – January 28, 1983) was an American, self-taught jazz pianist and singer who worked with the Original Tuxedo Orchestra between 1923 and 1936, first under Papa Celestin, then William Ridgely. She also worked with Armand PironJohn RobichauxSidney Desvigne, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band is a New Orleans jazz band founded in New Orleans by tuba player Allan Jaffe in the early 1960s. The band derives its name from Preservation Hall in the French Quarter. In 2005, the Hall's doors were closed for a period of time due to Hurricane Katrina, but the band continued to tour.
