This fabulous black on black embroidered silk shawl was purchased in Spain around 1915 when the original owner was living and working there.

It has some light but noticeable fading in places and a single snag in the silk. Otherwise, there is no damage, meaning it has no holes, fabric loss or silk shattering.  The fringe is a little tangled in places but not so tightly that it cannot be untangled with a little time and effort.

The shawl has beautiful detailed embroidery all over it with the four corners in particular heavily embroidered and done in classical Art Nouveau thematic form with flowers, moths and flowing nature elements.

Overall, the shawl is 100 inches square. The body is 60 inches square and the fringe length is 14 inches which is attached to 6 inches of macrame lace for a total border length of 20 inches.
