By the end of 1940, with Soviet occupation in control of publishing in Latvia, Yiddish - language periodical publishing had come to an end, that is , except for the effort by the apparat of the first Soviet occupation to engage the Yiddish - reading population with both a newspaper titled Kampf ( Struggle ) and a journal called OYFBOY ( Construction , as in the process of " building up " ) subtitled a "political - literary monthly". Neither title was cited by Flīgere et al., thus making it difficult to determine the concluding dates , but assuredly both were abruptly stopped when the Soviets withdrew and turned the country over the National Socialist.
This issue of Oyfboy contains articles with such telling titles as M. Andri's " Jews in Latvia", H.Bloshteyn's "A hymn to Stalin ", S. Friedland's "About Soviet Yiddish" , Abraham I. Kairov's : The children's collective and the role of the teacher ", M. M. Kitai's "Yitschak Yoel Linetski" and M. Shats - Anin's  " Mayakovsky in Riga ', among other articles.
The existence of these two  Yiddish - language periodicals with their heavy propaganda strikes a somber note as prelude to an even darker conclusion to Yiddish - language publishing in Latvia.
