August 24 Ukraine celebrates its biggest public holiday - Independence Day, which is established in honor of an exceptional historical event - the adoption of the Act of Independence of Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR in 1991. This document records the millennium. aspiration of the Ukrainian people to have their own sovereign state and to determine their own destiny. Today, an extremely high price has been paid for our independence - the lives of Ukrainian defenders who stopped the invasion and with each passing day bring closer the victory over the Russian aggressor, and the victims among the civilian population. The postage stamp, interpreted by artist Zinaida Kubar, depicts a majestic monument known to every Ukrainian, which stands on the Pechersk Mountains in Kiev and is one of the tallest in the world (102 meters, sculptor Vasyl Borodai). To commemorate the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine's independence, the monument, with its shield turned toward Russia, is topped with a trident instead of the dismantled emblem of the totalitarian regime. The monument is called "Mother Ukraine".
