Vintage Rare 2000 EarthLink/CalFed V5.0 CD-ROM, New in Sleeve
Back in the waning days of the 20th Century, EarthLink was formed in March, 1994, by Sky Dayton, Reed Slatkin, and Kevin M. O'Donnell. It grew by mergers & acquisitions, such as MindSpring, OneMain, PeoplePC, ITC Deltacom, One Communications, STS Telecom, LogicalSolutions.net, Business Vitals, xDefenders, CenterBeam, etc. At one point, EarthLink was second only to AOL in size. And then, in March 2017, EarthLink was acquired by Windstream Holdings, Inc., which sold it in early January, 2019, to Trive Capital for $330 million in cash. (Come here, little fishies…)
This EarthLink software installation disc (Part Number B130P.1-R1-1000), with a copyright date of 2000 (the year EarthLink was nipping at AOL’s heels!), is in New condition. I don’t think these discs were distributed in shrink wrap. EarthLink offered the user 1000 Hours Free!. The software was compatible with Windows 95/98 v5.02, and Macintosh OS v2.1.
Did you and your loved one meet on EarthLink? One of our customers bought an AOL disc as an anniversary gift because the copyright year of the disc matched the year that they met on AOL, so think about that!
How about a Birthday? Wedding Anniversary? First year that you ______? (Fill in the blank.) Or just a memento of the Millennium…
If you have fond memories of the EarthLink, AOL, Prodigy, NetZero, and Juno discs that you turned into drink coasters, mini-Frisbees, or skeet targets, or if you’re too young to know anything but streaming and downloads, you can own this superb example of physical mass-advertising from a vanished era.
