This is rare in trading, biennial, hardy (to USDA zone 6) herb. This is very valuable vegetable - cultivated in the past and used in the way similat like celery. This species is considered to be superior to the related Smyrnium olusatrum because it not only blanches better but is also more crisp and tender and not so harsh flavoured. The leaves and young shoots are edible raw in salads or cooked in soups, stews. They have a strong, unusual celery-like flavour. The spicy seeds are used as a pepper substitute Tuberous roots are edible cooked. The seeds need to be sown in autumn to early winter, shallowly. They germinates in spring. In first year the seedlings grows slowly and die back in early summer, but in next seasons grows faster. This plant is very ornamental too, with unusual, odd apearance. Package 25 fresh seeds.
