OTHER: Native only to the US, Blue Spruce has been widely introduced around the globe, hugely popular for its ornamental beauty & adaptability. Like many, I myself love the gorgeous silvery blue of the foliage. Blue Spruce trees really catch the eye & will stand out in the landscape. Being extremely cold hardy & able to live in the drastically cold temperatures of zone 1 as well as the warmth of zone 8’s climate, they can thrive in a large variety of areas. They are popular as specimen trees in homes, parks, & commercial sites, & being an evergreen conifer with dense branches, they also make an excellent windbreak. They are a superb selection for adding color & texture to any site you choose for them, & their unique coloration provides a nice contrasting backdrop for other surrounding standard green plants that may otherwise blend in to a monochrome landscape. Additionally, Blue Spruce trees can help prevent soil erosion.
In their natural habitat, these trees can grow to reach heights of 100’ or more, but in cultivation typically don’t grow larger than 50’ tall by 15’ wide. They have gorgeous red pollen cones, & their mature brown pinecones measure 4”long & are popularly uséd in crafts & as décor. This spruce also has many traditional medicinal uses.
The Blue Spruce is the state tree of Colorado! Our seeds were harvested in Colorado, so you will be growing true Colorado Blue Spruce trees!
The Blue Spruce, a timeless classic beloved for their stunningly beautiful signature silvery-blue color, remains one of the most popular types of Christmas trees. Their dense branching provides a full appearance & their sturdy branches hold the weight of ornaments well. Spruce trees retain their needles for around 4 weeks after being cut if they are kept well hydrated. The fragrance is delightful, with a scent of cool pine & crisp woods that is clean & Christmasy. Capturing the essence of a stroll through a pine forest, Blue Spruce manages to be both refreshing & invigorating as well as warm, inviting, & relaxing with woody earthy undertones.
And, guess what the living Christmas Tree on the White House’s south lawn is? Yep, you got it – it’s a Blue Spruce!
