This a Vintage African Carved Ebony Nativity Scene from Tanzania. This detailed sculpture is carved from one single piece of wood, with intricate detailing of clothing and faces. Nativity scenes exhibit figures representing the infant Jesus, his mother Mary, and her husband Joseph. Other characters from the nativity story such as shepherds and sheep are displayed near the manger in a barn intended to accommodate farm animals, as described in the Gospel of Luke. Ebony is an exceptionally hard and dense black/brown beautiful wood found in East Africa. This a beautifully carved Nativity Scene that would be beautiful on display in your home or to add to your collection. There is a small shrinkage crack in the base.
