Historic 9ct gold & enamel football medal presented to Jimmy McMinn as incredibly, Greenock Morton FC won the prestigious Scottish Cup for the only time in their long history in the season 1921 - 22.

In their famous cup run that season Morton defeated Vale of Leithen, Clydebank, Clyde, Motherwell & Aberdeen in their run to the Final where they faced Rangers.

The 1922 Scottish Cup Final was held on 15th April 1922 at Hampden Park, Glasgow in front of a crowd of 75,000. Jimmy Gourlay of Greenock Morton scored the only goal against hot favourites, Glasgow Rangers to win the trophy for the first & only time in their history.

The front of the medal depicts the Scottish Lion Rampant in relief. Picked out in blue enamel is embossed "SCOTTISH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION".

The obverse is engraved:

"WON BY MORTON F.C. 1921 - 22. JAMES McMINN".

The medal comes complete with its original moulded presentation case by Vaughtons with the lid embossed "SCOTTISH FOOTBALL ASSOC'N" Also included is a small photo reprint depicting the winning Morton team with Jimmy McMinn sat on the front row, far right (highlighted).

Greenock Morton FC: The club was founded in 1874 making it one of the oldest senior Scottish clubs. The high point in their history was winning the Scottish Cup in 1922 but in the season 1916 - 17 they achieved their highest League finish, ending as runners-up to Champions Celtic.

The club holds the record for most promotions & relegations (10 of each) to and from the top flight although they have not competed in the top flight since 1988. They currently play in the Scottish Championship (2nd tier).

James "Jimmy" McMinn: James was born around 1901 making him just 21 when he won the Scottish Cup in 1922. He joined Morton from Scottish Junior side, Kilwinning Rangers in 1921 and played 31 League games for Morton in the 1921 - 22 season, scoring 4 goals. However he only played a further 10 League games for Morton in the following two seasons before signing for Ayr United in the season 1923 - 24.
