In a full leather binding, an 1830 first illustrated edition of Samuel Rogers' longest and final work, "Italy", written in poetry and prose. One of the most celebrated English poets of his age, Samuel Rogers (1763-1855) commenced a tour of the Continent in 1814 keeping a diary of impressions and events, but hurried home from Italy in early 1815 on the news of Napoleon's escape from Elba, only returning several years later. The first part of "Italy" was published anonymously in 1822 with the second part under his own name following in 1828. Initially the work was a failure, but after he enlarged and revised the work and illustrations were added, commissioned from J.M.W. Turner R.A., Thomas Stothard, and Samuel Prout, this edition first published in 1830 was a great success
