This antique Swiss nutcracker is a unique piece of folk art from the late 19th century. Hand-carved hardwood from Rigi Kulm, in the  Swiss Alps, on the edge of the Black Forest, known for primitive carved depictions of gnomes, trolls and woodland creatures.  The superior craftsmanship and quality materials are abundantly obvious in the intricate facial features, teeth and expressive eyes of this friendly looking fella.  Excellent condition and still functionally sound, highly discourage common use. The authenticity of this piece is undeniable, showcasing the craftsmanship of the time period in which it was created. An extremely rare find in this condition, having traveled across the globe from war torn Europe to gracing my home for decades in Naples.
