Known as a sky hook balancing toy, popular from the18th century forward and dating back to ancient China & India. Primitive balancing toys where they were most often carved from soft wood. The western European and colonial era toys were commonly made from metal or tin. At the time, the physics amazed and intrigued people. Teachers & Parents often demonstrated the wonders of scientific principles with these engaging toys.
Balancing toys of a variety of shapes & sizes have been around for centuries. Antique balancing toys were sometimes used as wager toys, with people betting on how long they would move once set in motion.
This toy comes with it's original stand, but it can also be balanced on a corner of a desk, table or other piece of furniture. It is quite heavy for its size because of the heavy gauge metal and cast iron counterweight. (about 4 Pounds heavy Measures approximately 14 x 19 with the stand.
