These incomplete sub-assemblies are intended for folks who know how to rebuild smoke units, and need parts to replace worn-out, corroded, or broken ones.
These are true New Old Stock parts (NOS) left over from Lionel factories years ago.
NOTE that these are the later production type - the cast bowl is SMALLER than early ones, so the CAP fits OVER (outside) the bowl (not inside).
Use your best judgement to determine if these will fit your needs.
