This is a set of three kokeshi dolls called "Seishi (Silent Thoughts)" by Miyajima Muhitsu.
The three kokeshi dolls on black pedestals are in the poses of "don't look," "don't say," and "don't listen".
These poses are based on the following admonition: "Don't look at, don't say, and don't listen to other people's faults and shortcomings. Then you will not have to fight with others.
The statue of three monkeys in this same pose at Nikko Toshogu Shrine, a World Heritage site, is very famous, and many Japanese take field trips to see and learn from the statue when they are students.
This is a wonderful kokeshi doll that shows lessons on how to live life better.
Because of its age, the base has some peeling paint, but the kokeshi itself is in very good condition, with no visible scratches or damage.
Of the three kokeshi dolls, the two on the left and right are held in place by core rods attached to the pedestal.
The thin kokeshi in the middle has a core stick attached to the kokeshi, which is then fitted into the pedestal.
Originally, it seems that the kokeshi and the core stick were further secured with glue, but now the glue is peeling off due to deterioration, and only the core stick is secured, but there is no rattling.
The kokeshi will be removed from the pedestal and packed when shipped.
It is a very valuable work of art, although it is very heavy and the shipping cost will be high.
