Offered is the vintage book "Thornwell Orphanage-Its Principles and Product", published in 1942. No publishing information or writing credit is listed, but the book appears to be a first edition. The book was apparently produced in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Rev. William Plumer Jacobs, founder of the orphanage in Clinton, South Carolina and the same man who founded Presbyterian College. The program for the three-day celebration is included in the book (see photo #6). There are dozens of black and white photos of alumni of the orphanage, as well as others associated with it, and there is a list of alumni names as well as several other items (see photo #5 for contents). Also included is the typed note from L. Ross Lynn, president of the orphanage at the time, indicating the book was a gift to a church auxiliary for its support over the years (see photo #4). (Madison-presumably Georgia-Presbyterian Auxiliary has been hand-written on the first blank page). This is a rare find; at the time of original listing I could not find any other copies for sale on eBay and only two others elsewhere.

The book is approx. 9 1/4" x 6 1/4" and contains 316 pages, including the index. It is in very good condition. The blue hard cover has little wear, but does have a few light spots and marks. The gold words on the front and spine are present but no longer very shiny. There is no cracking inside either the front or back cover. The white endpapers are clean, but there is writing on the first blank page, as mentioned above. I see no missing or torn pages and all of the pages are well-attached to the binding. The pages have yellowed but they are generally clean and clear. I see no writing in the book other than that already mentioned.

I have a lot of experience with vintage and antique books but am not an expert so please let me know if my description is missing information and you have additional questions. I will do my best to answer them!

Please take a moment to look at some of the other items in my eBay store!
