For sale is a vintage Chinese bronze propaganda sculpture of a peasant with a bundle of wood.  The statue is about 12 ¼ inches tall by 5 3/8 inches in diameter at the base.  It depicts a peasant man dressed in traditional garb with sandals, carrying a bundle of sticks on a back rack.  He carries a removable axe in his belt as shown.  He is carrying an open book, presumably Mao’s teachings.  The feet are pinned into the domed base as shown.  The piece has an even black patina with just some minor wear-through at the edges and around the axe.  It has a molded semi-circular inscription on the top of the base with a star in the center.  The wording is unclear and seems smeared on the left side.  There seems a good chance that the piece is a recast, with some of the normal loss of detail.

Condition on this piece is quite good.  There is just minor wear to the patina is spots and some dust and dirt in the details, especially in the stick bundle.  An impressive vintage Chinese sculpture!
