Letters to Dead Authors (1893)

This is the book, Letters to Dead Authors, by Andrew Lang (1844-1912), published in 1893 by Charles Scribners Sons of New York.  This edition was published in during his lifetime.

Illustrations include a beautiful portrait engraving of the author on the frontispiece and vignette headpieces and tailpieces in the chapters.

Lang writes to Thackeray, Dickens, de Ronsard, Herodotus, Alexander Pope, Lucian of Samosata, Rabelais, Jane Austen, Isaak Walton, Chapelain, Maundeville, Alexandre Dumas, Theocritus, Edgar Allan Poe, Sir Walter Scott, Percy Bysshe Shelly, De Moliere , Burns, Byron, Omar Khayyam, Horatius Flaccus, John Knox, Rev. Mather, Homer, and Samuel Pepys.

This book is in very good condition.  The half leather cover has 5 raised bands and marble boards. Ther are marble endpapers and the pages are gilt edged on tops.  The joints are intact.  The hinges are intact.  The binding is tight. There are no page tears, no dog ears, and no internal writing.  

This is a pocket sized book measuring  6 1/2 by 4 1/4 inches.  It has 252 pages.
