1939 CANADIAN $1 ROYAL VISIT COMMEMORATIVE SILVER DOLLAR COIN 

One Dollar Silver - George VI (1937 - 1952)

This is Canada's second commemorative coin created for the reverse side of the 1939 silver dollar used to mark the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada. The usual means of issuing coins was through the Bank of Canada, but for this special coinage it was decided to make them available through the Post Office as well. 

Obverse

Coin depicts the design of King George VI with the Latin inscription:
GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP: meaning "George VI, by the grace of God, King and Emperor of India."

Reverse

Features the centre block of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa and the Latin phrase: FIDE SVORVM REGNAT meaning "He reigns by the faith of his people."
