History : The Amphion, designed and built as a fast vessel, for the use and pleasure of the Swedish king Gustav III, was also used in naval battles, such as the victorious naval battle of Svenksund against the Russian Empire. Launched in 1778, it was built in the Djurgarden shipyards (Stockholm) based on a design by Fredrik Chapman, the first naval architect who codified the design of hulls on precise mathematical relationships, rather than sticking exclusively to empirical canons, as was customary in those days. The ship was equipped with a so-called "schooner" rig which, together with the streamlined lines of the hull, guaranteed it exceptional nautical qualities. Our model was completed based on original documents of the time and reproduces the ship as it appeared around 1790
