Original large-format map of the public surveys in Missouri showing railroad land grants and other features, published by the Land Office Commissioner in 1865.

  • Colored bands show the 6-mile and 15-mile limits along the rights of way for land-grant railroads:  Hannibal & St. Joseph; Southern Pacific; and Cairo & Fulton.

  • The map shows township and range lines and locates the active and former land offices, as well as existing railroads, including the Pacific Railroad (of Missouri).

  • Among the named cities and features are Springfield, St. Louis, Clinton, Palmyra, Ste. Genevieve, Jefferson City, Meramec River, Calhoun, Plattsburg, Jackson, and Grand River.

  • It also shows the boundary lines between Missouri and neighboring states and territories, and it locates White Hair's Village in the Osage Indian Reservation, beyond Missouri's western border.

  • The image area measures a generous 45.7 x 55.4 cm [18" x 21¾"].

  • It is an original, antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. It was lithographed by Bowen & Company, Philadelphia, and published in the Annual Report by the Commissioner of the General Land Office to the 1st Session of the 39th Congress, Washington, D.C. 1865.
