Product Information

Everyone has their city in the back of their chest!

"Your City 2022" is a photo book in which non-professional photographers record their time and memories. It contains a city viewed from the perspective of people with various jobs, including architects, graphic designers, LP bar operators, homemakers, chefs, educational marketers, and Protestant pastors. Photographs and articles express the feelings and emotions felt in the city. Writing is not just a tour guide to the city; it can be a memory of Seoul, a book, music, or a poem. Also, the tool for photo recording can be an iPhone, a Galaxy, a Nikon, or a Laika. Nothing is defined but a record of 'what existence was there then.' The book will continue to be published as a series every year, and after some time, the same city is recorded with the eyes of others, indicating that "My Own City" can become "Your Own City."

01 newyork (Ju Sung Su _ editorial designer)

Ju Sungsu is a graphic designer who has been running ‘Designsagang’, an editing studio in Jangchung-dong, Seoul since 2000. He made the most purchases of Bastien B. Beth’s 『Polina』, has enjoyed listening to Jackson Brown’s <The Load Out & Stay> for 38 years, and likes <Poetry> by director Changdong Lee. And he believes that in the end love wins.

I asked my son, who is now in his mid-20s, who he would like to go with if he were to go to New York again. He answered, “I would still like to go with you, Dad. Even now, I think the only person I can do everything together and share the joy is with you.” I was very pleased to hear that. I know you would have wanted to spend time with me too, but it was a difficult time with difficult circumstances. So I sincerely hope that you will not be sorry for me. I’m fine with it.

I hope in heaven you can also hear Billy Joel’s <New York State of Mind> that I’m listening to here right now.

02 hokkaido (Park Jongmin _ architect)

Park Jongmin is the representative of ‘MORPH architects office’, and he also enjoys photographing urban landscapes from time to time. He is a co-author of 『Secrets of Architecture Photography』(Di Book), and his representative works include ‘Songgokjeonga’ and ‘Moakhosujip’. He recommends listening to Song Chang-sik’s <Night Snow> in a dimly lit room in a Snow Country.

It was around the time I got married, bought a camera, and enjoyed taking pictures. As I was missing the outside world, someone asked me, “Are you coming or not?” at a drinking party. That’s how my Hokkaido trip began. The trip to Hokkaido, which had been put off from day to day, was made possible purely thanks to my teacher who loved snow. There is a country where it snows constantly, just two hours from where we live. Our latent senses seemed to be awakened by the teacher’s dreamlike tale. And the moment I got off the plane, it felt like a hometown I should have visited earlier.

03 amsterdam (Sin Sunghyung _ traveler)

As a traveler with a camera, Sin Sunhyung is the happiest when eating delicious food with good people in a new destination. She feels happy when he learns and plays drums, and when she plans and dreams of her next destination.

The wind, the light, and the people were all beautiful. I always think, the most beautiful among them are people. Innocent little children, and elders sitting in the sun. Beautiful cities and buildings, but the people were more beautiful.

I dream of being one of them.

04 sicily (Jang Jun Woo _ chef)

Jang Jun Woo is the owner-chef of ‘Arouz’ after entering a culinary career as a reporter for the Economic Daily. He is also a food writer and food columnist and dreamed of a life of photography, writing, and cooking. He is making that dream come true.

After the trip to India, Sicily was the most dramatic turning point in my life. One day, when I was losing my life in a mess, I decided to quit my job and fly to Italy to learn their cuisine. The purpose and reason were different, but the mindset was the same as when we were heading to India. If there is a difference, I guess I was already used to losing everything.

05 esfahan (Kim Jae Geun _ vinyl bar manager)

Kim Jae Geun runs the Vinyl Bar ‘Seochon Blues’ on the west side of Gyeongbokgung Palace. He enjoys vanishing to a quiet place and taking pictures there when bored, as his surroundings are always full of music.

I buy a cheap plane ticket, take the time I saved in my drawer, and simply pack up. On the way to Tehran via Kuala Lumpur, I was not familiar with the Iranian cities of Isfahan and Kashan. Tehran Road in Seoul, Persian Civilization, Pahlavi, Khomeini, Black Chador, Iraq War, Soccer Rivals, Nuclear Development Suspicion, Persian Poets, Zoroastrianism. These were the keywords related to Iran that I knew roughly. At least it was until I toured its cities.

06 ulaanbaatar (Alicia Kim _ education marketer)

Alicia Kim majored in art and has had various careers as a display and an education marketer. The most valuable thing for her is her long-standing relationship with her loved ones. What she loves the most is to capture her fluttering heart on her camera and gaze at it in silence. In 2017, she exhibited a photo book of 『Pale Blue Monologue』 at the Tokyo Art Book Fair.

Listen to the silence

In my mind sun, moon, the wind and thousand rays of starlight that blanket the universe. I reminisce the chills of silence above the lost horizon, a soul of a person which drifts the universe.

07 jeju (Jung Wan Ha _ Pastor)

Jung Wan Ha is a pastor. He believed throughout his life that God exists everywhere in the world. He said he met God in Mozart’s <Requiem> and Schubert’s <The Winter Traveler>. He writes poems with the breath of God who always breathes in the world. He takes pictures with the flow, draws pictures, and writes songs. So he is a pastor, but not like any other. He simply refers to himself as a seeker who tries to discover and breathe God in life and in the world.

A long time ago in high school, we boarded a boat on a school trip to Gyeongju. Perhaps the boat seen below is a way for someone to visit their mother like me. When I get off at the airport, it seems that my mother will be there to meet me. When I returned home from college and vacation, my mother was always hiding in the same pillar at the airport where I got off. She lost her alcoholic husband at the age of thirty-nine and lived for her son. I was her son, her husband, and her friend. She used to go to the hairdresser a few days before we meet. I always made up my mind to give her a hug when I met her. But I never did. It was because of the strong smell of her perm product. I am the son of my mother who can’t hug her now even if I want to.
