BEACH IN NORMANDY VELVET FRAME SIGNED   

Offered is a great oil painting on canvas by listed American artist Edward B Fulde (1853-1918), depicting 

a vivid and luminous seascape of a beach in Normandy (pictured). It is signed at bottom right “EDWARD 

B FULDE” (pictured). The painting has fine craquelure due to aging and comes with an attractive mustard

 brown colored velvet frame and wire on the back, ready to hang (pictured).

Artwork size: Size is 20 cm (7.9 in.) X 32 cm (12.6 in.).

Artwork size with frame: Size is 31 cm (12.2 in.) X 43 cm (16.9 in.) X 2 cm (0.8 in.).

Condition: The artwork and frame are in good condition. The painting has fine craquelure due to aging 

(pictured). There is a tiny paint loss at the bottom left corner (pictured). Backing paper tears have been

Edward B Fulde (1853-1918)

Edward Bernard Fulde was an American expatriate artist active in France.

Relatively little biographical information is available on him, although he was Missouri born and reviews of 

his paintings have found in newspapers such as the New York Times. Fulde exhibited with the Pennsylvania 

Academy of Fine Arts, in Japan and in Paris, where he had a studio. An artist and connoisseur who was in close 

contact with many of the most important painters and sculptors of his day. It is likely that Fulde associated with 

the American artist colony round Monet in Giverny, and many of his landscapes depicted Normandy, near Vernon 

or Giverny.

Fulde's bronze portrait by Victor David Brenner is in the Musée d'Orsay.
